This community is my home. I am an Indiana native; Born in New Castle my father was a career military man, thus our family traveled quite a lot during my school years. I graduated from high school in Virginia in 1972. During my last two years of high school, I worked at the local hospital after school. After graduating, I moved back to Indiana and worked in two factories from 1972 through 1974 (Philco in Connersville and Chrysler in New Castle). In 1974 I joined the U S Marine Corps serving our country in Korea, Japan, Okinawa, Turkey, several U S bases ending in Quantico Va. in 1978. 1978 to 1981 I worked for the U S government in the Department of Transportation. In 1982 I started our families trucking business, and in 2004 our sand and gravel operation.
I married Teri (Faenzi) in 1981; she is a 1978 Mt Vernon Graduate. Teri is our homemaker. She volunteers her time at school and church. We have three children. Jeri Lyne is a Mt Vernon and Ivy Tech Graduate, now married and living in Greenfield. Jacob is a Mt Vernon Graduate and owns his own business in Hancock County. Joe is a senior at Mt. Vernon and is going to Purdue this fall. We attend St. Michael’s church in Greenfield.
I have been a volunteer with the Hancock County Sheriff Department Reserve Division for 15 years. In the not so distant past I have enjoyed coaching local soccer both indoor and outdoor. Several years ago I coached boys basketball (that was a treat being only 5’6” myself). My favorite past time activity is flying. I started flying at age 12 with my father and continue to fly today.
Why Politics?
If you don’t vote don’t complain. If you do vote and don’t like the results, run for office. I have been following politics for what seems like forever. I vote and guess what, I don’t like the results! This is where I come in. I want a new agenda “YES and NO”---“Right not Wrong Politics”. No gray areas.
As Commissioner:
1) I would like to have a countywide Planning Commission. This Planning Commission would be made up of members from all township School Corporations, the city of Greenfield, all local town and county officials. We could then plan our counties growth with regard to school expansion and over crowding (I believe this would put a stop to future “Yellow vs.: Blue” battles i.e. Mt Vernon and Greenfield). We cannot stop expansion or growth in our county, but we can do a better job of controlling it. This alone could solve current and future drainage problems.
2) I would like to have better control of our expenses and spending decisions. Spending held to what we need not what we want. We can do this with your input; it is your county. I want half of the Commissioners Court meetings in the evening. That will allow everyone the chance to attend out meetings, without missing work. There should be standing room only in the courtroom. If you elect me, you will know and have a voice in what’s happening in the county.
3) Government’s main responsibility to the citizens on any level is PUBLIC SAFETY. Protecting you, your property and you rights. I will do whatever it takes to make sure that you have the best EMS, FIRE, and POLICE protection possible. Property owners will be respected for their wants and requests. I would never use eminent domain to acquire anyone’s property.
4) I want Hancock County to be the “ County of Choice”.
Why am I the most qualified candidate to be your next Commissioner?
I care about what happens in this County. My decisions are always well thought out. I will bring diversity to the Board of Commissioners. We have a retired police officer in district one and an active farmer in district three. We need a businessperson to round out the Board. Someone not connected with any current portion of the government. Someone with the experience running a multi million dollar business. I believe that I am that person. I am the president of our family business, I have managers that handle the operations and I am not afraid to delegate authority. We have 30 employees (25 live in Hancock County). I deal with a wide variety of people and other businesses on a daily basis. In my fifteen years as a volunteer with the Hancock County Sheriff Department, I have traveled every road in the county. Good weather and bad. I have seen “the good the bad and the ugly”. I understand what we have and what we need. I am as thrifty with a twenty-five dollar order for office supplies, as I am with a just completed six million dollar multi company truck purchase. I will make sure our COUNTY TAX DOLLARS ARE ONLY SPENT FOR WHAT WE NEED AND NOTHING ELSE.
Thank you for your time, with your support and vote I will do my best to make Hancock County
“The County of Choice”
